Hi all, Gemma here.
The Bradley Lowery Foundation has been set up in memory of my son. Bradley gained his angel wings on 7 July 2017, 1.35pm, at the age of 6, after a 4.5-year battle with Neuroblastoma. Whilst Bradley was suffering himself, he used to always look out for other children on the ward, this inspired me to carry on his work now he is no longer with us. Our aim with the foundation is to help and support campaigns to raise funds for medical treatment/equipment not available on the NHS.
I tried everything within my power to try and help Bradley survive, but unfortunately it never worked. I want to try and help other children achieve the goal we didn’t. Bradley has created a legacy that we are so proud of. Myself, my family and my team want to carry on his legacy and do my little boy proud.
I am asked all of the time how I cope, how I deal with my grief and this is how – helping and supporting other families going through these terrible times.
In the past, I have expressed how I am feeling occasionally on Bradley’s social media. When I do that, I get a lot of people interested, so I thought I would start writing a blog on how I feel. This is because whilst Bradley was going through treatment, I kept a lot of my emotions hidden away. I needed to be strong for my baby, and my family. No one but my close friends and family knew what I was going through, as I hid it so well. I have since learned by working with other families, and speaking with people, that it is OK not to be OK, it is OK to talk about how you are feeling.
So that is why I have decided to create a blog, for me to get my feelings out, and my hopes are that if I can help just 1 person, then my journey may make their journey that little bit easier. I am so busy at the moment, with my son’s legacy growing from strength to strength. So, I want to share the things you don’t see, this is a behind the scenes voice of a grieving Mam who wants to help others.
Although I spend the majority of time working for the foundation, and continuing my angel’s legacy, there is so much more to me.
I am a business woman, a friend, a mother, a wife, a daughter, a sister, but I am also a woman that has daily struggles with the biggest heart ache. This is the beginning, I will chat about my day to day life and opinions and my struggles. If you want to know more of who I am and a mother continues after losing a child, stay tuned.
