Name: Janine Johnson
Date started volunteering: Summer 2024
Volunteer role/area of focus: Mainly helping with clothing donations (sorting and selling on platforms like Vinted)
Favourite hobby: I love photography; I recently completed a level 2 course at East Durham college to improve on my skills. Gig photography and landscapes are my favourite subjects. I’d love to be able to crochet, that’s my next wannabe hobby.
Favourite music genre: My daughter is a singer songwriter, and she creates amazing indie pop music, so I’d say that but I’m also an 80’s fan so anything from that decade makes me smile. Oops I’m a very proud Barry Manilow fan too, absolutely love him!
Something that surprises people about you: That I’m a Barry Manilow fan, ha ha!
Why did you decide to start volunteering for The Bradley Lowery Foundation? I came to a point in my life where I had some free time and I
wanted to find a volunteering role where I could be helpful.

What made The Bradley Lowery Foundation stand out to you? I think the charity stood out because they have been and are doing amazing things for children and their families who are going through incredibly tough times. I think most people would know Bradley’s story and recognise how remarkable he was.
How has The Bradley Lowery Foundation made you feel since becoming a volunteer? I was very surprised to discover how small the team is, they all work so hard! I only play a small part in comparison, but I feel valued and appreciated and they are so warm and welcoming. I actually feel like I’ve known them for years!
What is your most memorable moment whilst volunteering for The Bradley Lowery Foundation? I think the first time I met the team! Gemma, Lynn and Brooke were all just so friendly and made time to get to know me even from day one. It was lovely.
Can you give an example of when you were very proud to be a volunteer for The Bradley Lowery Foundation? Every time I walk through the door, I hope I make a tiny difference, and I do feel proud to be involved.
How do you think your volunteering has impacted the families that The Bradley Lowery Foundation supports? Fundraising is absolutely key, and it can be challenging especially in these times. I guess my small contribution adds up and goes towards being able to help the children and their families. I feel like my time is beneficial which means a lot and is rewarding for sure.
